The Energy that Keeps Namibia Moving

The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) donated beds and mattresses worth over N$400, 000.00 to the Orotjitombo Primary School in the Kunene Region.

Utaara Hoveka of NAMCOR’s Communication and Public Relations Department told Nampa the company decided to come to the aid of the school after learning through the media of the harsh conditions learners live in. He urged the media to continue reporting more on the needy members of society so that they can be assisted.

NAMCOR’s Managing Director Mr.Immanuel Mulunga said the donation was made as part of the company’s social responsibility programme, which focuses on education, environment and community upliftment.

“In addition to receiving requests from institutions and individuals, we proactively look for worthy causes [to donate to],” he said.

Mulunga said that after having heard about the plight of the learners at the school who were sleeping on the floor without beds and mattresses, the company dispatched members of its corporate social responsibility committee to the school to gather information first-hand.He said learners need to have a conducive learning and living environment if they are to excel in their studies.

Orotjitombo Primary School Principal John Tjambiru thanked NAMCOR for its donation and promised that the material will be taken care of. Governor of the Kunene Region Angelika Muharukua, who also attended the handover, urged local business people to plough back into the community by assisting needy schools.
